It Was Always The Eyes is a series conveying the message of silent understanding. When you meet a person who’s been through a lot, I think quite often you can see the sentiment of their past in their eyes. Most of us protect ourselves by wearing a “mask” (some do so more strongly than others), but the eyes of a person barely ever deceive. It Was Always The Eyes, strips away that mask and focuses fully on just the eyes. Even in a deceptively simple art piece, the result is quite powerful. Someho...

During my travels, one of my favorite pastimes is meeting new people. Listening to their stories, trying to understand what made them into the person they are today. Inexplicably I can quite often tell, before any “secrets” are shared if a person has struggled in the past and / or is struggling today. On a technical level, this was a very fun and interesting series to create. After playing around with a lot of different animations (nodding heads, moving mouths and more), really making the eyes stand out made me go for the decision to animate only those. It pulls your attention towards them strongly. Another pretty awesome part of this series is that when you use the “member mint” functionality, you will gain two art pieces contained in one NFT (in the live view you can press “m” to switch between the two modes). With 256ART it’s also the first time we’ve decided to generate GIFs instead of still images (as we felt this series warranted it). Generating high quality GIFs from a JavaScript canvas is surprisingly tricky to do (if you mint using a membership, you will have access to two GIFs).
Last but not least, this is a free to mint generative art series consisting of 2048 pieces. It’s definitely also created with use as a PFP in mind. If you decide to mint It Was Always The Eyes, we’d love to see you rocking it on Twitter and on Discord too.
