FULLY ON-CHAIN GENERATIVE ART

Generative art, etched into the blockchain, forever.

256ART is the open platform for fully on-chain generative art. Artists release work that lives as long as the chain does. Collectors own art that can never be taken down.

WHY ON-CHAIN

Read the docs ↗

Every work on 256ART lives entirely on the blockchain. The art, its traits and even the metadata that marketplaces read are served straight from the chain. No servers, no IPFS, nothing external. Each piece renders live from the smart contract, exactly as the artist intended, for as long as the chain exists.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Read the docs ↗
What is 256ART?+

256ART is an open platform for fully on-chain generative art. Artists release generative collections whose code, traits and metadata live entirely on the blockchain, and collectors mint unique pieces directly from the artist's algorithm on Ethereum, Base and Shape.

What does fully on-chain (in-chain) mean?+

Traditionally the art script is stored on-chain, but the metadata and artwork are served from a centralized server. On 256ART the artwork, its traits and the metadata that marketplaces read are all built and stored on the blockchain, served through standard ERC721 functions. There are no servers or IPFS links that can go down, so the art stays accessible for as long as the chain exists.

How does minting generative art work?+

Each piece is generated by the artist's algorithm from a unique seed. When you mint, that seed determines the traits and appearance of your variation, and the same seed always produces the same piece. The artwork renders live from the smart contract, so you can always rebuild it straight from the chain.

What is a collector curated mint?+

Some collections let you choose the seed instead of receiving a random one at mint. You generate previews on the artwork page until you find a variation you love, then mint with that exact seed to receive that exact piece.

How is the art sold?+

Artists choose between three sales mechanisms. Fixed price: every mint costs the same set price. Fair Dutch auction: the price starts high and drops over time until the collection sells out or reaches the reserve price. Open edition: a fixed price with no supply cap, so anyone can mint while the mint is open. Releases can also include an allowlist phase before the public mint opens.

Can anyone release art on 256ART?+

Yes. 256ART is an open platform, so any artist can create an account in the artist portal and release work. A release only needs an artwork.js file and a traits.json file, testing is fully automated, and you keep sole ownership of your smart contract. Fees are 10% on primary sales and 10% of the royalty you set on secondary sales.

What do the artwork tags mean?+

OG marks the first eight series, released before 256ART became an open platform. Dynamic artworks can change based on blockchain data such as the current owner, block number or total supply. Animated, Interactive and Sound indicate motion, interactivity and audio. You can filter the artworks page by these tags.
