WiW

I'm WiW (William), a 30-year-old generative artist from São Paulo, Brazil. My current research in art, "humachine humanized experience," explores the relationship between humans and machines and how we can use them to express our ideas and our moment. I worked for 10 years on projects involving network engineering and have a degree in the field. During that time, I created and participated in various visual and sound artistic projects, contributing to artistic direction and compositions. This blend of experiences with art and technology led me to discover and explore Generative Art, initially using Hydra-Synth as the primary tool, and eventually transitioning to Processing and p5.js. The desire to create art has fulfilled me since I was young. I come from a family of musicians, and I learned early on that art completes the human experience. My projects are fragments of my essence and seek to capture every moment I have in the experience of life.

STORY

I come from a family of musicians in São Paulo, Brazil. My father is a talented guitarist, and my late grandfather was one of the renowned names in the world of cavaquinho, a traditional Brazilian instrument. However, he passed away when I was only one year old, leaving behind a legacy that would continue to inspire me throughout my artistic journey. From a young age, I was encouraged to embrace art, and my parents instilled in me the importance of self-expression. I always carried with me the belief that art was a path I was destined to follow. However, due to our family's financial situation and the lack of government support for the arts, my parents encouraged me to pursue a more "secure" path. And so, I embarked on a journey into the realm of network engineering. Delving deeper into the world of connectivity technologies, I immersed myself in the intricate workings of the internet, exploring its hidden intricacies. I enrolled in a technical course in the field and later obtained my degree, equipped with knowledge and experience in implementing networks, ensuring security, and expanding wireless systems. For a span of ten long years, I traveled across Brazil, implementing connectivity systems, enhancing security, and expanding wireless networks. Throughout this period, I steadfastly maintained my passion for art, expressing myself through various forms of media. From digital creations to physical manifestations, I explored photography, music production, and everything within my reach. It was during this transformative phase that the phrase "humachine humanized experience" emerged. Rooted in my experiences as a technology worker and inspired by the profound ideas I encountered while reading the works of Isaac Asimov, I became increasingly captivated by the ever-evolving relationship between humans and machines. My creations always, in some way, reflect these thought-provoking contemplations. At a certain point, I discovered the world of generative art and began exploring the use of hydra-synth in my creative endeavors. This newfound fascination led me to delve deeper into JavaScript, ultimately introducing me to the captivating realm of p5.js. Immersed in a continuous cycle of learning and vibrant exchanges within the artistic community, I realized that generative art perfectly aligned with my mode of expression. The symbiotic relationship between creativity and information processing deeply enthralled me. However, one of the greatest challenges I faced was unraveling the history of computational art in Brazil and obtaining information about its pioneers. In my quest, my greatest inspirations emerged from the groundbreaking works of Waldemar Cordeiro and Erthos Albino de Souza, widely regarded as the pioneers of generative art in Brazil. The discovery of 256art was a revelation to me, as it goes beyond mere HTML, delving into the intricacies of each artist's story. This focus on context and narrative was precisely what I had been searching for in generative art marketplaces. Beyond the technical aspects of development, I yearned to understand the rich stories behind each artwork.
