"Drawn Apart" explores the concept of self-avoiding flow fields, where lines navigate a mesmerizing dance, perpetually avoiding collision with each other to remain apart but also being intricately connected and drawn back together, forming a tapestry of interwoven paths. An elegance arises when lines are compelled away from one another yet forever yearn to be together.

FULL STORY

"Drawn Apart" explores the concept of self-avoiding flow fields, where lines navigate a mesmerizing dance, perpetually avoiding collision with each other to remain apart but also being intricately connected and drawn back together, forming a tapestry of interwoven paths. An elegance arises when lines are compelled away from one another yet forever yearn to be together. 31 colors were selected to serve as a parent palette. With each iteration, the algorithm selects a unique subset of 4 to 11 colors, creating unexpected but harmonious color combinations. I decided on this approach as a self challenge to use a different method from typical predetermined color palettes. The result gives additional variety and still maintains an overall cohesiveness to the series when viewed as a whole. Shapes range from elegantly simple to intriguingly complex. Some lines take the form of slender threads with square or round stroke caps, while others evolve into intricate geometries. This range of shapes helps each artwork possess a unique identity. At the core of each mint lies a self-avoiding flow field algorithm. This algorithm orchestrates the movement and direction of the flow lines. This concept was inspired by other series that use similar techniques. The first time I saw this method being used was in "Avoidance" by Bart Simons. There are also other projects that explore this idea, each with their own unique style. Some of my favorites are "Fidenza" by Tyler Hobbs, "We Are Alone Together" by Per Kristian Stoveland, "Evolution" by jcode, "Mind the Gap" by MountVitruvius, "Vicumvia" by Kunio Okuizumi , and "Automatism" by Yazid.
